Dr. Todd Jackson Gives Tips for Protecting Your Eyes During UV Safety Month

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, July is UV Safety Month, and NV Eye Surgery’s Dr. Todd Jackson is here to talk about the importance of shielding eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. According to Dr. Jackson, UV rays can be reflected off sand and water and can cause eyes to sunburn, which is can be painful and result in temporary blindness. Long-term exposure to bright sunlight can increase the risk of cataracts and growths on the eye, including cancer. To combat this, Dr. Jackson recommends that both adults and children wear sunglasses labeled as 100 percent UV protection or UV 400 anytime they’re out in the sun. Not only will protective eyewear decrease exposure to UV rays, but also will reduce trauma to the eyes, including susceptibility to damage from dust, dirt and debris.
